Bloomberg's latest stats on school gun violence ignore reality

Are schools and colleges dangerous places, with lots of gun violence?

Some groups paint a picture of these places being particularly unsafe. Supposedly both murders and firearm suicides are very common at educational institutions. The Cruelty of Gun-Free Zones

Tuesday night, President Obama vowed to “help stop more tragedies from visiting innocent Americans in our movie theaters and our shopping malls, or schools like Sandy Hook.” But before he continues pushing his typical gun-control agenda, he should consider what law enforcement in Europe and the United States advise. It might surprise him.

What liberal media won't tell you -- blacks benefit most from Stand Your Ground laws

Kindergarten and the Kafkaesque

"The ultimate goal is not to punish such thoughts; punishment is merely the means. The real goal is to break the young soul to self-censorship and self-accusation regarding all thoughts related to personal efficacy, individual power, independence, and self-defense. A submissive citizen does not "cling" to his weapons. Therefore, future citizens must be taught that such "clinging" is a vice. Submission to the collective is the goal. Seen from that perspective, it is quite logical to try to make children self-conscious about how they eat their Pop Tarts, lest they appear to be "threatening" society. Notice, they are not actually threatening any person; their threat, being imaginary, is abstract. It is a threat to "other students" in the abstract, to the collective. The child is learning to feel guilty if he catches himself in possession of thoughts unacceptable to the state as such; that is, he is learning to submit."

Columbine survivor Evan Todd released an open letter to President Barack Obama on Wednesday in which he offers a point-by-point analysis of proposed firearms control initiatives, dismissing them as ineffective and dangerous to Americans’ rights.

States’ crime rates show scant linkage to gun laws

President Obama has called for stricter federal  gun laws to combat recent shooting rampages, but a review of recent state laws  by The Washington Times shows no discernible correlation between stricter rules  and lower gun-crime rates in the states.

States that ranked high in terms of making records available to the National  Instant Criminal Background Check System also tended to have tighter gun laws — but their gun-crime rates ranged widely. The same was true for states that  ranked poorly on disclosure and were deemed to have much less stringent  gun-possession laws.

The Facts About Assault Weapons and Crime

Warning about "weapons designed for the theater of war," President Obama on Wednesday called for immediate action on a new Federal Assault Weapons Ban. Last month, in the wake of the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., Sen.  Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) promised to introduce an updated version of the ban. She too warned of the threat posed by "military weapons."

Gun groups to Congress: Members won't register

Banning guns increases violence, a coalition of dozens of gun organizations have said in an open letter to Congress opposing the myriad plans to restrict firearms, their ownership and access.

“Between the first significant school shooting, in 1966, and enactment of the 1996 (Gun Free School Zones Act], media summaries reveal eight shootings with 134 victims killed or wounded – a rate of 4.3 victims per year,” said the letter to members of Congress and other leaders.

Disarming law abiding citizens left them sitting ducks. (by John R. Lott, Jr.)
Has anyone noticed that these mass shootings at public schools increased after the 1995 Gun-Free School Zone Act? Passed with good intentions, banning guns would supposedly make schools safer.

The Battle of Athens (TN) 1946

I was completely unaware of this event that took place in Athens , TN in 1946. I did not know an armed revolt by WWII veterans ever took place during our lifetime. A very sobering video to say the least.  Now it makes the second amendment a little clearer.  Be sure to see the actual photos at the end showing the plaques describing the event.
